Wind River: Virtualization for Embedded & Realtime Systems

Cory Bialowas, Director of Product Management - Multicore and Virtualization at Wind River, discusses how multicore and virtualization intersect and the Wind River solutions to make the process easier if not easy. Multicore refers to having multiple processing cores on a single chip. Virtualization would allow you to divide up a physical core into virtual cores such that two operating systems could run together on a core, providing virtual multicore in a sense. VxWorks and Wind River Linux operating systems currently run on multicore processors in symmetric and asymmetric configurations (SMP/AMP) and with the hypervisor we can also run those operating systems in virtual cores or use the hypervisor to provide memory protection and device partitioning on AMP systems thereby increasing the reliability.
